Process Paper
Why I chose this topic:
When I was 7 years old was when I first became interested in the Declaration of Independence when I visited my cousins in Maryland. We did some sight-seeing and visited a museum in Washington DC. A copy of the Declaration of Independence was on display. When I was in the 5th grade, I was studying in my history book about the Boston Tea Party and Declaration of Independence and this sparked more interest in the topic.
How I conducted my research:
I first did research on the internet and read various topics. After gathering my thoughts, I went to my local library and consulted with the librarian. She directed me to the encyclopedias and also directed me to the history section where the Declaration of Independence books were. I took notes on note cards from these books which contained valuable information needed for my project. Then I interviewed a retired history teacher who helped me narrow down my topic and gave me further ideas, which inspired me to do more research. On my computer at home, I went to Google and typed in the search engine, my topics of interest. Then I went to the Houston Community College and interviewed a research librarian who became my primary source of information. They helped me understand why the Declaration of Independence is so important today. After that, I started on my annotated biography.
How I created and developed my website:
I went to weebly and made an account and got started on my website. I started looking through the designs for my website until I found the one with an ink pen that had ink stains on it. When I saw it I knew it would be perfect for my topic. After that I started adding pictures. I searched for some pictures on the internet and found a picture of a flag with fireworks and the Declaration of independence with the signatures of the men who signed it. I also found some other pictures. Then I started to add some pages to my website that had to deal with the things I had on my research paper. Then I started adding information from my research paper and pictures from the internet.
How my topic relates to the National History Day Theme?
The Theme of the National History is Revolution, Reaction, and Reform in History. The Declaration of Independence relates to the National History Day theme because it began a reaction that resulted in revolution of reform. The drafting of the Declaration of Independence resulted as a reaction of rebellion of heavy taxation from England after the French and Indian War. This reaction of events made a major impact on the lives of women and slaves, giving them equal rights.
